Chapter M announced they planned a mystery ride on Sat. March 29th and all were invited. We were to meet at Fred Meyers parking lot in Grants Pass with enough time to leave by 12:00 noon. Lunch would be provided.
Marty and I left Sunny Valley at 11:15 and crossed Mt. Sexton at 34 degrees. Steve Riggs, Dave and Donna May, Bud and Gariann Bowling, Rosemary Sanders and Marty and I were the Chapter A participants.
The first stop was in Grants Pass for dessert at Steve and Wanda Odell’s house. This was the first time we met them and we enjoyed their hospitality. The next stop was at the Densmore’s for sloppy joes. We rode mostly back roads to get there and some of those were new to us. The next stop was at Valerie Cole’s for salads. Again we rode back roads only. It was wonderful to see her house and property because we know how much effort was put into getting it all set up. It is very nice. Our last stop was at Tim and Diana Abel’s for hors d’oeuvres. Again we rode back roads. This was our first time at their home and it is very nice also.
The whole day we made sure Dave and Donna were in front of us because they don’t have CB’s. Donna rides a cruiser. Dave rides a full dress Harley. The last little stretch of road to get to the Abel’s we were passed by a pickup truck cutting in and out of our line to pass all of us. The problem is the last time he pulled left to pass, he went too far and got into the soft dirt on the wrong side of the road. It looked like he was very close to losing control and some of us wouldn’t have been safe. While at the Abel’s Dave said he definitely wanted to get a CB because it is nice to hear somebody at the back of the pack say, “We’re being passed by a crazy pickup.” We all said that sounded good. When it came time to leave Dave and Marty were looking at Dave’s bike and where the CB would be and how it would work. To make a long story short, Dave simply had to turn ON the CB to make it work, so it has been there all along and he didn’t know it. We sure had a laugh. Dave, however, is very pleased.
The day was filled with wonderful hospitality, great food, and lots of good visit time with new and old friends. Although the day was cold, it was beautiful and we all had a wonderful time. Bud and Gariann swapped with us so Marty got to drive their new trike for a stretch. It is a very nice machine. And the illusive CB was found. You couldn’t ask for a better day. Thank you Chapter M for a wonderful day.
